Summer Game Fest 2026: The Show's Biggest Reveals, Heavy Hitters, and the 2Pac Nobody Saw Coming

Every June, the same ritual plays out: we sit down to watch Summer Game Fest with one prayer running through our heads — “okay, this is the year they finally show Half-Life 3.” And every June, Geoff Keighley smiles, gives a little wave, and closes the show with literally anything but the threequel. SGF 2026 was no exception: Gordon Freeman is still in stasis, but the rest of the show was so stacked that after two hours of trailers your Steam wishlist balloons like an inventory after a hot drop.

So let’s get into it. We’re breaking down the most talked-about reveals from Summer Game Fest 2026, and at the end we’ll check in on two games that aren’t “someday” anymore — they’re sitting in your library right now: the fresh Gothic 1 Remake and the much-hyped 007 First Light.

Resident Evil: Veronica – Claire Redfield opens the show

  • Studio / publisher: Capcom
  • Release: 2027
  • Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, PC

The show came out swinging — with the first trailer for Resident Evil: Veronica. From the footage, it’s a reimagining of the classic Code: Veronica: Claire Redfield is front and center, this time in Paris, hunting for her brother Chris. This is Capcom doing what Capcom does best — moody, atmospheric, and aimed squarely at the kind of survival horror fans have been craving since the RE4 remake and Village.

There’s no firm date yet — just a 2027 window. This is exactly the kind of reveal the wishlist was invented for.

Stranger Than Heaven – yep, that 2Pac trailer (but it's NOT "Mafia")

  • Studio / publisher: Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio / SEGA
  • Release: January 15, 2027
  • Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (+ Game Pass)

The biggest “wait, what?” moment of the night. If you heard somewhere that they showed a new Mafia set in Japan with 2Pac in it, let’s clear that up right away. Stranger Than Heaven is a brand-new standalone game from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio — the same team behind Yakuza / Like a Dragon. It has nothing to do with Mafia or Hangar 13.

The story spans half a century and five Japanese eras (1915, 1929, 1943, 1951, 1965), following Makoto Daito, who starts out as a stowaway on a smuggler’s ship. And now for the guest of honor: studio head Masayoshi Yokoyama was joined on stage by Snoop Dogg (who plays a character), and the team also confirmed Tupac — recreated with his family’s blessing as a character named Amaru. The crowd, to put it mildly, did not see that coming.

SAW: Genesis – the "Saw" franchise goes asymmetrical multiplayer

  • Publisher: Bloober Team
  • Development: Broken Mirror Games, Anshar Studios
  • Early Access: Fall 2026
  • Platform: PC

Horror fans got served SAW: Genesis — and no, it’s not the single-player campaign a lot of people were expecting, but a 3v1 asymmetrical multiplayer game. Three Accused work together to escape a maze of traps on procedurally generated maps, while a fourth player takes on the role of the Judge — a precursor to Jigsaw who pulls the strings from the shadows. The twist is that the Judge is physically weak and wins not through brute force, but through traps, pressure, and the kind of moral dilemmas the franchise is built on. It’s set after World War I, a century before the events of the films.

It’s published by Bloober Team (yes, the Silent Hill 2 remake studio), with development by Broken Mirror Games and Anshar Studios under license from Lionsgate. It hits Early Access in fall 2026, and closed-alpha sign-ups are already open on PC.

TMNT: The Last Ronin – Turtles in "one against all" mode

  • Development: PlatinumGames
  • Publisher: Paramount Games Studio
  • Release: TBA
  • Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC

Another surprise: an action game based on the cult comic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin — the story of the last surviving Turtle on a mission to avenge his fallen brothers in a grim, futuristic New York. The tone is about as serious and bloody as it gets, a world away from the cartoon Turtles.

Here’s a detail that threw a lot of people: The Last Ronin was previously announced with a different team, but at SGF 2026 we got a new version — developed by PlatinumGames (the studio behind Bayonetta and Ninja Gaiden) and published by the newly formed Paramount Games Studio. So expectations for the action are sky-high. There’s no release date yet — all we got was a teaser.

And the show's finale – Final Fantasy VII Revelation

  • Publisher: Square Enix
  • Release: Spring 2027
  • Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, PC (simultaneous)

They closed out the night exactly the way a finale should — with the third and final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy. The subtitle is finally out: Final Fantasy VII Revelation. The trailer showed off the Highwind, new gameplay with Cid and Vincent Valentine, and even a new skydiving mechanic that drops you straight from the airship into the world below with no loading. The director says the theme of the finale is “resolve.”

The best part for anyone burned out on exclusives: it’s slated for spring 2027 and launches on every platform at once.

As for everything else worth a wishlist slot: the return of Alien: Isolation 2, Fumito Ueda’s new game gen ATLAS, the Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascension expansion, Guild Wars 3, The Wolf Among Us 2, and a Cuphead sequel. It’s shaping up to be a loaded year — though Half-Life 3, once again, was a no-show. Maybe next June.

By the way — while you’re saving up for those 2027 bangers, it pays to keep your Steam wallet and inventory under control. Steam Inventory Helper surfaces prices and keeps you from drowning in your own library. Drop a release into your wishlist and wait it out in peace.

Gothic 1 Remake

  • Development: Alkimia Interactive
  • Publisher: THQ Nordic
  • Released: June 5, 2026
  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S

While some of these are a 2027 wait, two big premieres just landed. The first is the long-awaited Gothic 1 Remake, out as of June 5, 2026.

It’s a full ground-up rebuild of the cult 2001 RPG on Unreal Engine 5: the same Colony, the Valley of Mines, the warring factions, and the Nameless Hero — but with modern visuals, reworked combat, and expanded quests. The devs promised 50+ hours in the open world and living NPCs with their own daily routines. And going by early scores, they nailed it — the press gave the remake a warm reception. If you ever bounced off the original because of its ancient controls, now’s the perfect excuse to head back to the Colony.

007 First Light

  • Development / publisher: IO Interactive
  • Released: May 27, 2026
  • Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, PC

The second fresh premiere is 007 First Light, the new James Bond from IO Interactive — the Hitman studio. It launched on May 27, 2026 (after a delay from March) and became one of the most talked-about releases of the year.

It’s an origin story: a young, occasionally reckless Bond joins a revived Double-0 program, and after a mission goes sideways he’s forced to team up with his reluctant mentor, Greenway, to unravel a conspiracy. The Hitman DNA is obvious from the jump — stealth, gadgets, and the freedom to play it loud or quiet. Critics praise the cinematic flair and the stealth, though they’ve got a few notes on the linear stretches and the driving sections. If you’ve been waiting for that classic spy-action fix, it’s already in your library.
