Why Overpay? CS2 Skins: "Battle-Scarred" Almost Like "Factory New"

It’s no secret that Factory New quality is considered the best, as skins with low float values look flawless and are exactly how they appear in previews when opening cases or collections. For this reason, they are almost always the most expensive and desirable, but in this article we’ll look at examples that in Battle-Scarred condition absolutely don’t compromise on appearance, while costing several times less. Each item will be presented with a float below 0.5, and if visual appeal matters more to you than skin value, you definitely won’t want to overpay.

Desert Eagle | Code Red

Desert Eagle | Code Red
  • Factory New — $236.26
  • Battle-Scarred — $24.76

Let’s start with a fairly popular skin that has been in the game for quite some time and is a Covert item in the Horizon Collection. The pistol’s slide is painted bright red with white stripes. The black grip with eagle logo and “Eagle” inscription looks simple and neat. Some parts of the weapon were left unpainted, creating a signature contrast. In Battle-Scarred condition, wear adds realism, but the colors hardly lose their brightness, while the price drops tenfold.

AK-47 | The Empress

AK-47 | The Empress
  • Factory New — $400.00
  • Battle-Scarred — $39.96

How about saving $360 on purchasing a top-tier AK-47? The design of AK-47 | The Empress is based on the Tarot card “The Empress”. In the center is a blonde girl in a crown with a sunray pattern. The stock, handguard, and grip are in different blue shades with symbols and patterns, while the red magazine with geometric ornament completes the look. In Battle-Scarred condition, the skin only darkens slightly, but this doesn’t interfere with reading the details and the skin remains completely recognizable. Even the main feature is preserved – the golden shine on the main character’s hair. If it still seems duller than the Factory New version, there are plenty of ideas online on how to make the curls literally shine with stickers. Our favorite is ECSTATIC (Glitter) | Copenhagen 2024 for just $0.47.

AWP | Exoskeleton

AWP | Exoskeleton
  • Factory New — $36.00
  • Battle-Scarred — $4.09

Here the overpay wouldn’t be critical, but the difference is still very significant – almost 10 times! The rifle’s body is made of gray-blue metal with engraved patterns. In the center of the receiver is the skull of some creature. The barrel, scope, magazine, and rear part of the stock with unique engraving on the same gray metal gives the skin an extremely unusual texture and depth. In Battle-Scarred condition, this skin doesn’t lose anything, it doesn’t develop any visual defects, and the gray metal color acquires a slightly colder and deeper shade, transitioning to blue.

M4A4 | Desolate Space

M4A4 | Desolate Space
  • Factory New — $123.70
  • Battle-Scarred — $8.47

Probably the most “dirty” skin from today’s selection. However, you’d agree that if you saw this item in similar condition on a server, you wouldn’t rate it lower than Field-Tested. Now without further words, just look at the price difference. The design itself truly deserves attention: the body features a space background with a beige skeleton in a spacesuit, with purple tentacles reaching toward it. On the handguard you can see a rocket wrapped by the same tentacles, and on the stock – a blue electrical discharge. The details are clear and cohesive, and the quality reduction doesn’t affect the artwork at all, with all wear falling on the magazine and upper part of the weapon.

USP-S | Printstream

USP-S | Printstream
  • Factory New — $150.44
  • Battle-Scarred — $31.75

Did you also think that when talking about the Printstream collection, it always meant something expensive? The recognizable design loved by many players feels great even in Battle-Scarred condition. All elements are in their places: the slide and suppressor in white with pictograms and “XXXY” inscription. The rest of the pistol remains contrastingly black, like the grip with small inscriptions and pictograms. Pearl stripes on parts add accents – a sufficiently minimalist design without excess. With decreasing float, a texture resembling cracks appears on the body, but in some way it adds a bit of charm.

M4A1-S | Leaded Glass

M4A1-S | Leaded Glass
  • Factory New — $180.55
  • Battle-Scarred — $6.50

One of the record holders for price difference (Factory New is almost 30 times more expensive than this version). Looking at the design, where the entire body except the handguard is covered with glass fragments in yellow, blue, and orange tones – slight “aging” here is absolutely appropriate. The fragments create a mosaic effect throughout the weapon, and in Battle-Scarred condition the colors blend more softly, while the artwork and main idea don’t fall apart.

AWP | Chrome Cannon

AWP | Chrome Cannon
  • Factory New — $147.56
  • Battle-Scarred — $17.20

The newest skin from the entire selection, which was released in February 2026 and became one of the first in CS2. Can we say that VALVE reconsidered their vision and stopped taking items that don’t have wear effects? Unlikely, but such items are indeed becoming fewer and fewer. This skin showcased all the capabilities of the new Source 2 engine, featuring an AWP with a chromed surface and red accents. The chrome shines, and red shades emphasize the contours, giving it a futuristic look. The details seem simple but simultaneously noticeable – the skin really catches the eye even when just lying on the ground. In Battle-Scarred condition, the chrome dulls, but the accents remain, and it looks very worthy for such a low price.

Glock-18 | Brass

Glock-18 | Brass
  • Factory New — $389.21
  • Battle-Scarred — $21.90

30% brighter but 2000% more expensive – how’s that equation from Glock-18 | Brass? The skin itself is quite simple: a brass slide with patina for a vintage effect, while other parts aren’t painted at all. The patina adds texture and makes it less shiny, so even the Factory New skin won’t be “golden,” it will really just become slightly lighter. This pistol is in demand among lovers of strict designs, and if there are such people among you, don’t even think about overpaying $400.

M4A4 | Spider Lily

M4A4 | Spider Lily
  • Factory New — $103.00
  • Battle-Scarred — $3.85

M4A4 | Spider Lily is a very promising skin from an investment perspective. If you’re considering it in that key, then of course you can spend money on the Factory New version. But if you’re only interested in the design, then there’s no point, as all the artwork is fully preserved. In the center are the same bright red flowers on a blue background. The handguard and top of the stock with abstract ornament are done in blue tones. The grip and rear part of the stock have gray textured overlays, plus brass details. This is a calm design and in Battle-Scarred condition the colors certainly fade, but patterns are readable, and the price is practically free.

AK-47 | Leet Museo

AK-47 | Leet Museo
  • Factory New — $690.00
  • Battle-Scarred — $52.63

We conclude the selection with a controversial skin that doesn’t appeal to everyone. The body is in cubism style, like Picasso, where two terrorists are positioned against the background of Dust II, those same chickens and urban elements from the most popular map in the game’s history. Angular forms and colors mix into one composition, and quality reduction doesn’t harm it at all. You’d agree that for $700 you can find plenty of interesting options, but for $50, and still in perfect condition without a single scratch or scuff – that’s quite difficult.
